More Flutters

First of the trio of butterflies today is the Green-veined White.
A common and widely distributed species.
There are several species of white butterflies, but this one is easily identified once you have observed the underside of the wings which reveal the green veins.

The first of the female Brimstone that I have seen this year.
Both of these are females which are a pale green as opposed to the bright yellow/green colour of the male. The males are not so easy to get an image of as at this time they are always on the move in search of females. I am hoping to catch up with some males and better shots of females later in the year.

I know I have posted Peacock butterflies already, but they are nice to look at anytime.

  1. Great shots Roy.
It's a real treat to see these now.

I've seen quite a few Brimstones so far this year, but like you say, a nightmare to get pictures of at the moment.

  2. Oh, Roy, that little Green-veined White is so sweet and delicate looking! How nice of it to pose for you and let you get around it for different shots. I'd feel pretty smug if I saw a Peacock butterfly!

  3. I've just been reading through your earlier butterfly posts Roy. You've certainly seen and photographed a good number so far this year, you must have a butterfly hot spot in your area?, I've only managed to see a few individuals during my recent outings!

    A great series of posts...[;o)

    1. Thanks Trevor, there are a couple of good locations, one in particular.
A lot of it is knowing and revisiting where you have sighted them in previous years, as many species tend to stick to the same location.

  9. Beautiful shots and captures of the butterflies in your last posts, Roy. In this one I find myself intrigued especially by the Brimstone females, perfect camouflage colours of their wings.

  10. What a great contrast the three have. The first seems so plain and then the last so fancy....but all three are beautiful.
