Golden Flight

My latest visit to Lodmoor Reserve at Weymouth revealed another flock of Golden Plover.
This was a much smaller flock than I observed last December, probably only 25% of the previous.

However I never miss a chance to take some photographs of this bird irrespective of the numbers.
Unfortunately, from my position, the flock was facing away from me into the wind most of the time whilst on the ground

Grey Wags Galore

A few sunny days and the insects are starting to show around the local river.
This is a good food source for the Grey Wagtail.
I waited around at a location on my local walk where I observed this species feeding and drinking at the water's edge.

Chiffchaff

There is a location on my local walk that I have not been able to get to due to the floods.
Until now that is. So I was pleased to find two of our 'Overwintering' Chiffchaffs flying about at the side of a river. The majority of Chiffies migrate as far as sub Saharan Africa for the Winter. An increasing minority now choose to remain in UK all the year around.

Some Birds at Last

At last, something other than floods to photograph.
In many recent weeks (seems like months) birds have been somewhat scarce.
I fear for many small species that would have found it difficult, if not impossible to find food due to the continuous rain and resulting flood conditions.

So I was very pleased to see and photograph this female Bullfinch. I always like to see the Bullfinch, but never more than now.

The ever resourceful 'Woodie' that was feeding on Tree Ivy leaves.
The Woodpigeon's diet varies throughout the seasons and it never goes hungry.
