The first reasonable shots I have taken of the Speckled Wood Butterfly this year.
Last year due to the weather they were almost non existent so I was glad to find them this year.
Unusually, the Speckled Wood feeds on honeydew secreted by aphids rather than any form of flower like most species.
More than reasonable shots Roy, these are excellent,
ReplyDeletethe first one is a cracker! I've only seen one Speckled Wood so far this year.
I'm a bit concerned!...are you getting some sort of preferential treatment on the supply of sunshine so far this year, you seem to be getting more than your fair share? Can you send some this way please?...[;o)
Thanks Trevor, I will send you down a skyfull Sunday all day.{:))
DeleteLovely photographs as ever, Roy. I had no idea about the Speckled Wood's dietary habits though!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alison.
DeleteAnother fantastic series Roy! I have seen one of these 'flutters' this year and that was a decidedly tired looking individual! Hopefully we will get some warmer weather soon, which will benefit all of us, butterflies included!
