Lodmoor Reserve Visit - Spoonbill

Lodmoor Reserve is a place that is visited by the Spoonbill on an infrequent basis.

I have seen as many as four at one time in the past.

They are back. 

Several small flocks of Canada Geese are beginning to arrive.

Little Egret

Black-tailed Godwits are now present and feeding in all the areas.

A few butterflies remain in the area.

One such species is the Common Blue. These images are of a female.

I remain amazed at how many Clouded Yellow butterflies I have seen this year.

Here we have a bit of a Mexican Stand 0ff between a Great White Egret and a Grey Heron.

Another chance to see and photograph the Greenshank which was observed the previous week.

Visiting Lodmoor Reserve now is quite encouraging. 

Hopefully this will continue onwards into Winter and many species will be observed.

Lodmoor Reserve Visit - Greenshank

A visit to Lodmoor Reserve revealed something to shoot at for a change.

From what I have observed on this visit, things are beginning to happen in respect of the bird population as we enter into the Autumn period.

The star of this post is the Greenshank.

It was feeding in a shallow narrow small stretch of water and I was able to observe it from behind a small tree. It remained there for some time and then (without being disturbed by me) flew to another part of the Reserve.

Aster (Michaelmas Daisy)

A chance to get a Great White Egret on the wing.

I have lost count of the amount of Clouded Yellow butterflies I have seen this year. 

Quite exceptional.

Large White

One of a few immature Long-tailed Tits that were feeding in dense foliage.
