Siskin Trio

I have recently read various reports and observed posts created by a number of fellow Bloggers about the numerous sightings of Siskin this Winter. I usually see some small flocks on my walks at this time, but never in our garden. It was only recently (for the first occasion) I observed one male Siskin in the tree outside the lounge window, which I posted images of at

Just to support the reports of frequent sightings, this weekend three Siskin turned up outside the lounge window and visited the seed feeder on many occasions during the day. This was an occasion that couldn't be overlooked so here are some of the images I took of this colourful bird.
The good news is that they continue to visit.

  2. Lovely photos Roy, so nice to get close views. They are pretty little birds. The only time I have seen them in my garden was three or four years ago in similar weather when a pair stayed for about a week....and I had no suitable camera :-( The only photos I have managed this time were distant shots while on a local walk.

  4. Very nice images Roy. I like the contrast of the colourful birds against their greyish background.
At this side of the North see I have had them for a number of times in the garden too this year. Coincidence?

  7. Lovely shots Roy and I love the colour of this brightly coloured male :-) I'm sure they appreciate the feeders all the more in the current bitter weather.

  8. The bright yellow colour is so nice to look at! :) Just a few days ago I read that because of this long winter, birds need to be fed at this time more than in other years. Can't that be the reason they are seen more often this year? That they come looking for food?

    1. It tends to spend summer in Scandinavia and nest in pine trees there and moves South East in winter, so thats why we get them here Petra I think.

  12. This cold weather is not such good news for the birds but it does give us the opportunity to see, up close, some of the birds that wouldn't normally be so confiding. An excellent set of images Roy...[;o)
