Siskin - From The Window

The latest in my series 'From the Window' depicting just three images of the same bird.

Just occasionally a different bird appears outside the lounge window.
There was considerable bird activity in the tree outside, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Chaffinches, Robin and Goldfinch. As it was a wet unpleasant day I waited inside observing what was going on. (Oh yes and drinking tea) Then suddenly, a flash of yellow appeared in amongst the branches, I realised it was a lovely male Siskin, which is the first one I have seen from the lounge window.
In fact I have only seen two so far this year on my travels.

Of course there is always a twig or branch in the way of the shot and it was the only direction I could take it from. I am loathed to start playing around with photoshop. I like to shoot what is there and if it doesn't work out, well there will be another time when the bird will be in the open. It will make that occasion even more satisfying.

Lumix GH3. 100-300mm lens. 1/320 at f5.6 - 300mm(600). ISO1600
Having regard to the wet dull weather, I was pleased with the quality of the image with my new camera considering the ISO was up to 1600.

  1. Nice images Roy, that Siskin is beautifully coloured :-) I agree you as regards photo-shopping though it's amazing how often a bird manages to position itself so that a twig or something is in the way ;-)

  2. Wow, great Roy, such a nice bird. Amazing that you can shoot with iso 1600, I don't even try. Your Lumix amazes me every time.

When you don't want to use PS, you can always take a saw and use it in the garden ;-).

  3. It's always good to get a new garden visitor Roy, I hope you didn't spill your tea with excitement?

It's uncanny how they always manage to find a twig to hide behind, maybe you need to go out and do a bit of pruning ready for the next visit!!

The new camera seems to be working well, very impressive...ISO1600 and through the glass, can't be bad!...[;o)

  4. Lovely captures despite the twigs Roy, twigs....the bane of our lives ;-) What a great garden visitor! Around four years ago I had a couple visit every day for about a week but have never seen them in the garden since.

  5. Hi Roy

Great shots considering the twig. I have often pondered the relationship between the ever present trinity of bird, twig and photograper but despite this you have some nice detail.

  6. Your siskin looks like a cross between our male goldfinch and our siskins. Very pretty bird! I see some hopeful buds on that tree! Spring is coming?

  7. Hey Roy....I just say that's the way it is, wildlife doesn't strike a pose ; )
How nice that it came to see you....colorful little guys!! I had a flock come to the feeders twice back in January and haven't seen any since!
I don't do any Photoshop stuff either, it is what it is!! Cropping yes and some tweaking!

How nice to have all these birds in front of your window!
