Red-legged Partridge

The Red Leg is never easy to approach when in open ground.
They will run away at a rate of knots or take flight and glide away if they have no other option.
I was able to sneak up on this one from the car window. Even then it was pure luck and he would never face towards me.

The Red Leg is the more common species of our Partridge.
The rare species is the Grey Partridge, which is more difficult to find let alone photograph, something I have not managed for quite some time.

    1. Thanks GG, the few that own guns here can only carry them in a vehicle if they are inside a secured bag or case.
Unless you are a Drug Dealer of course.{:))

  5. Geese do the same thing. They somehow always manage to sidle off gradually, except for the Canada Geese at my local reserve of course! Grey Partridge are mythical critters nowadays me thinks!

  6. You did well to get so close Roy! The best I manage to see (and hear!) is the frantic whirring of their wings as they rapidly depart! An excellent set of images!...[;o)
