The Farming Post

Wooly Jumpers or Hurdle Boxers if you prefer, are the feature of this latest Farming Post.

This small flock of 'Fat Lambs' were enjoying the nice warm sunshine when I arrived at their location.
Being young and inquisitive they were quite happy to pose for photography.

NB: I read an entry in an Australian Newspaper website the other day. Apparently it is a serious misdemeanour according to the 'Politically Correct' brigade to refer to immature Lambs under 40kg reared for the food industry as 'Fat Lambs'.

They should now be referred to as 'Prime Spring' or 'New Season' Lambs in this 'Fat averse World'.
It is intended to make the meat more attractive to consumers.

Not that it affects me as I don't eat red meat, but honestly! you couldn't make it up.
Since my childhood days I have always known them to be referred to as Fat lambs by the farming community.

I'm assuming that the PC Brigade are quite happy to eat it as long as someone else kills (Sorry euthanises or dispatches it) it for them.

  2. Lovely series of images Roy. What is it about sheep/lambs...why whenever I walk past or through a field of sheep I can't resist not taking a photo (or a few!) of them? I thought it was just me..but perhaps not?...lol

So, putting political correctness aside, as I currently weigh more than 40kg(!)does this mean I'll still have to put up with being called Fat Trevor?...[;o)

Not sure about 'Fat Trevor', I think they may occasionally substitute 'Trevor' with some other word.{:))

  6. Love the photos....their noses just cry out for you to pet them. They look very friendly and soft. I do eat red meat, but the idea of eating a lamb never appealed to me and I never have eaten one.

  10. I am a veggie, been veggie for twenty years. When I was eating meat I hated lamb, I hated the taste and could never understand why people liked it. Whenever I was invited for lunch, I would turn into a cold sweat when I saw that it was lamb and often a cheap cut, fatty with very little lean meat:\ Rather than offend people who invited me to their home for a meal, I would eat it, but my goodness every mouthful was torture. Thank goodness for vegetarianism, I don't ever have to face eating lamb again:-)

    1. Good for you Lyn.
I have had to offend people in the past, but thats their problem not mine.

  11. It's all about 'selling' the meat. The farmers ride on the trends of the moment and any negative references are discarded! We just live in a society full of trendy words and marketing spins.

    1. Yes I think you are right in that respect Helena.
However, I just cant quite associate political correctness or trendy words holding too much water with the Australian in the street.{:))
