Snowy Birds - From the Window

The latest in my series of "From the Window".

Snow on the 24th of March. This is supposed to be Spring.
The Collared Dove below looks thoroughly dejected.

Here below are our almost resident Siskin.
I suppose they will only stay until the weather improves.
Although they are a little smaller than most of the birds that visit the seed feeder, they don't get  bothered or pushed around by the other birds including the much larger Greenfinch.

  1. What better things to do in mid winter(!!) than to, quickly dash out and top up the feeders then kick back and settle down into a warm and cosy armchair, mug of tea at hand, and relax while watching the wonderful display that unfolds before you!

Great images from your busy day Roy!!...[;o)

    1. There is one thing better Trevor, the lady wife tops up the feeders.{:))
Seriously, topping up feeders isn't in my department. {:))

  2. Yep, it seems winter does not want to let go...
Lovely series on a large variety of garden birds!
The Blackbird has eluded me this season!
    Well done!

  3. Hi Roy

Your "from the window series" is great, what a variety of birds you get. The detail on the Greenfinch is really lovely.

    Enjoy your tea.

    1. Thanks Guy. Mostly quite common birds, thats why the Siskin was of a particular interest.

  4. Nice! The number of birds in the garden has really jumped over the weekend, poor things are desperate for something easy to eat! Must be terrible for them, I fear that many will not make it!

  5. Hey Roy..What's with your weather there..it is usually me getting snow, and un-Spring like weather!! The Mid-Western states here just got hammered with snow, and thank goodness it is missing us and going out to sea "YEAH"
That's a very hungry crew you have at your window!!
Photos sure show the nasty looking day, and the birds don't look happy about it either!
For shame sitting and drinking tea.... I walked 4 miles yesterday!!

    1. Thanks GG, we get strange weather periods like this occasionally.
When I was born, it snowed every day from the beginning of January to the end of March.

  6. It looks as though you have plenty of takers for the 'all you can eat for free' cafe.
Very appropriate comment on the last photo ;)

  7. You've got a nice selection coming to your feeders Roy. I'm somewhat limited as we don't have many trees in my area of the town. I love the funny at the end! Made me smile! (-:

  8. It's good to see that they all look quite healthy. Our garden birds have been eating all the bird food we give them too, all feeding stations are empty when I get home from work. I hope the hedgehogs are coping with this cold weather too, I have seen a few and worry they have woken up too early. I give them the rest of the cat food after my fussy cat is finished with it. Let's hope this is the last of the winter weather!

    1. They soon empty our seed feeder Helena. Its nothing to see four birds at a time on there and at least twice as many in the adjacent tree waiting their turn. Another week of these Arctic conditions at least.{:((

    1. Thanks Helma. I have had trouble with this blog template, it use to show all the images at the bottom and you could scan through them. Now it is only one at a time.

    2. You can reactivate a link to the lightbox. I (and many with me) have already done so. My lightbox works so again.

  12. What a lovely selection of shots Roy and you certainly enjoy a great variety of visitors at your feeders :-) I think I too could happily sit and watch the show for a few hours with a nice cup of tea (or two) :-)

  13. Hi Roy, all the birds are suffering from this 'horror spring', but, because they suffer and come to eat frequently, you could take very nice pictures. I especialy like the greenfinch in the snowstorm picture, although I feel sorry for the bird. Like yours, 'our' siskins are still in the garden, normaly they are gone by the end of February.
Wishing you a happy (white?) easter,

    Marianne
