Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly


Having emerged from hibernation and in good condition this male in the photograph is towards the end of its life cycle now.

    Hi Roy,
    The short life of a butterfly is fascinating.
    ( the Dutch name is small fox, rather funny ;-)
    You captured this Aglais urticae very well!

      Thanks Maria. That is a strange name, but it has some reddish brown markings like the fox. :-)
