On one of my walks there is a large tree the other side of a river. About 40 feet up the tree I noticed a hole and almost immediately a Nuthatch landed next to the hole. I watch it entering and returning out of the hole several times. It was preparing the hole for nesting. It left and returned on numerous occasions. I wasn't sure if it was the same bird visiting each time. Subsequently a bird returned and remained outside the hole. It was joined by another and it was obviously the male offering titbits to the female.
"What a smoothy"
Hi Roy, beautiful photos of the nuthatch. I never saw 2 nuthatch.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting that must have been to watch!
ReplyDeleteIt was about an hour or more Wilma.
DeleteHei Roy! Aivan mahtavat valokuvat!
ReplyDeleteLovely series of photos. Well spotted. What may have made the hole originally?
ReplyDeleteThanks John. It was probably a Great spot woodpecker. There is a grown over parting in the tree and this would have been easier for a woodpecker to create the original hole.
DeleteWhat a lovely set of photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks Simon.
