Swan Amour

A pair of mating Mute Swans
As recorded on the 2nd of January which is by far the earliest in year I have observed this activity.
Early in the morning (well early for me anyway) I noticed this pair in a quiet corner of the largest lake in the Parkland. With much dipping of heads underwater it was obvious what was about to occur.

  1. I've never seen swans mating before, but it's not surprising they look just like my old white ducks doing it, just longer necks. :-) Looks like they had a splash around and clean after, too! Fab images - don't they look so romantic in the before photos.
Like the ice patterns in the previous post too. :-)

  3. Hi Roy! It is pretty early, although I have seen Mallards, Gadwall and even a few Wigeon in the throws of courtship so far this year. No mating though!

    1. Thanks Pete.
The first shots they were positioned in a shaded area with the low sun coming through the trees. Then they moved out to the middle of the lake. It was a clear cold morning with wall to wall blue sky.
