The Jersey Tiger.
A species of Moth found mostly on the South coast of England especially in Devon and Dorset where it is well established. Although Nationally scarce, it is on the increase, which is good news as it makes for a nice photograph. One of its favourite flowers that it visits is the Buddleia on which I was able to take these images. It does however feed on a wide variety of herbaceous plants.
Here, in South Devon, there used to be so many! I remember a very long, old stone wall, near to where I lived, and it was covered in pink Valerian..and Jersey Tigers! I’ve seen one or two this summer but nowhere near the numbers we once used to see so I’m glad to hear that it’s on the increase!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sal. Yes you should be seeing more as time goes on.
DeleteHi Roy,
ReplyDeleteFantastische vlinder, en mooie foto's. Ik heb deze vlinder nog nooit gezien...is nog een wens.
Fijn weekend, groetjes, Maria
Heel erg bedankt Maria.

ReplyDeleteKiitos Anne. Tuskin sinun osassasi maailmaa.
DeleteBeautiful moth. I've seen them in Hertfordshire but never further north. I had a Scarlet Tiger Moth in my window recently and was very excited about it till I discovered that several had been seen around here that week.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the Scarlet at Radipole Reserve Weymouth last year I think.
DeleteBonsoir Roy.
ReplyDeleteC'est un très beau papillon et tes photos sont magnifiques.
Bonne semaine Roy.
Merci beaucoup Nathalie.
DeleteCan't beat a Jersey Tiger! I don't see them very often any more though I used to have them in my garden in Brittany quite regularly. Having said that, there was one perched on my kitchen window recently, but you don't get to see much colour when you see from the underneath! They would do that on my living room windows back in Brittany, so I knew what it was.
ReplyDeleteMandy - and sorry about all the comments, but I am catching up! :-)
Thanks Mandy.
