The Common Carder Bee (Bombus pascuorum) is a species of Bumblebee.
It could be easily described as a mini bumblebee due to its size. An average length of the body is 14mm. You can assess how small it is as the Field Scabious flower that it is feeding from in these images below is only 3cm (1.23 inches) across. The Carder can be seen from March to November and is very common throughout the UK. The females have a more creamy colour on the thorax than the darker more yellow males.
Lovely shots! I also love the gentle colour of the Scabious.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sal. Yes it was a a dull drizzly day and it was the only bit of colour I saw and it was fortunate that the bees were there.
