Brimstone (Gonepteryx rhamni)
The first butterfly sighting of the year for me.
Observed this male today during my woodland walk and it was the only one that I did observe.
It would have emerged from hibernation very recently, maybe in the last day or two, as this occurs during the first few warm days of Spring.
Interesting to see spring is coming ,Nett
ReplyDeleteThings should be improving now for Nature Nette.
DeleteStill a bit miffed I have not seen this Butterfly, we do get them in this area too. Back to snow and cold to day...

DeleteNice one Roy...you're off the mark!...[;o)
ReplyDeleteThanks Trevor, yes, but its getting colder again for a few days so I doubt that there will be too many additions for a while.
DeleteHey Roy... Well leave it to you to be the first to see a butterfly : ) Nice!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks GG, this species is always likely to be one of the first.
DeleteVery pretty! I saw my first butterfly yesterday. It was a small tortoiseshell.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gunilla. Hopefully that will be one of my next sightings if the weather improves.
