Migrant Hawker

The Migrant Hawker Dragonfly (Aeshna mixta)

The first six images were shot in a hedgerow adjacent to a river, which is the normal habitat for this species. The remainder were shot on the side of a woodland ride.
They will continue to fly through to November.

  1. Colorful patterns on the Migrant Hawker. Nice shots, Roy. I'm just now learning a little about dragonflies. I don't see many around here. Have a great day!

  4. Great photos and what a beauty! I found a Southern Hawker recently but it was dying - but probably the only chance I got to see one close up and take photos. Loved your Common Blue photos too - I haven't seen a single one this year. They should rename them! :-)

  5. Nice bug. We call these darners over on this side. Hawker is a pretty cool description. Our darners are constant flyers and it is tough to find them resting.
