Bee Orchid Discovery

I have now been fortunate to find Bee Orchids (Ophrys apifera) at two different locations in the last few days. Here are some images of the single plant that I found on the Woodland/Heath Reserve that I visit regularly.

The first three images were taken three days prior to the second batch of three.

The second three images. Note that the second flower has emerged.

  9. Wonderful orchid!
Funny we have the same photos on today!
This is the most common Ophrys where I live... Interesting to see how it can be different from one area to another or from one country to another!
Lovely photos Rick, enjoy your weekend!

Hopefully we will get more of these growing in the future, a consequence of climate change.

  13. Roy, these are gorgeous and they remind me, somewhat, of our woodland flower, the "lady's Slipper." I believe it is an orchid as well. Sorry I don't have any pictures to show you! it's one of my favorite flowers, though.
