Blues and Browns

Two small species of Butterflies in this post.

The Common Blue (Polyommatus icarus) - wingspan 35mm.

This is only the third one I have seen this year. I would hope to see many more than this in the next month or two.  Anything less, then it would be a matter of concern for numbers.

Sony Alpha 6000. 55-210mm lens. 1/400 at f8. (310mm). ISO250

The Brown Argus (Aricia agestis) - wingspan 29mm.

My first sighting this year (if only briefly) of this species was welcomed.
I observed it, took five shots and the it was gone and not to be found again in an open meadow.
Again, I would hope to have seen more by now. This is probably due to the inclement weather in the last week or two and hopefully things will pick with the next emergence of both these species due in August to September.

  2. You're right Roy, I think the weather has put a dampener (sorry!) on these butterflies over the last week or so, although I've seen a few more of both over the last couple of days, hopefully things are now starting to look up for a good summer?
Lovely images, the new camera seems to be working well?...[;o)

    1. Dampener.!{:((
Yes it should get better soon Trevor, but June is a funny month for weather anyway.
I am quite surprised already what the A6000 and 55-210 lens can do.
The Argus was a brief few shots form a distance and they cropped well.

    1. Yes a few more species now GG, but slow as well. Lot of wet whether doesn't help.

  6. I was just mentioning over on Frank's blog that I've seen a few blues here too, but they have been too active to shoot.
