A Few Damsels

There are quite a number of Banded Demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) flying now.
After period of wet weather I have observed them along the river bank on one of my walks.

This female below was moving along the bank and pitching on tall grass seed.

Only one chance to get this male before he moved off again.

A pair of Azure Blue (Coenagrion puella).

A male Azure Blue below.

Another female Banded Demoiselle

The Large Red Damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula)

  1. Splendid photographs, Roy. They're not the easiest of things to photograph, are they?

  5. A cracking set of images Roy, they're such delicate and beautiful creatures...[;o)

Sorry to correct you Roy but your Common Blues are Azure Damselflies. The characteristic telltales of the male are the black 'U' shape (the beer glass) on segment two of the abdomen and the little black 'bow tie' shape on the rear part of segment ten.'

  7. Beautiful photos, Roy. My fav is the first one; it is a work of art with the lovely composition and colors. A study in greens.
