Linnet

The Linnet (Carduelis cannabina)

A member of the finch family and a resident bird in UK.
These two were quite helpful and waited around long enough for me to take several shots of them.

  1. What lovely birds. I confuse these with redpolls, but the birds here don't look anywhere near as red!

    1. I think it depends on how the light catches them Alison. The Redpolls have gone North now, but I can see what you mean about the similarities as both species look much more plain generally.

  2. Great shots Roy. We have them round us too but I've yet to persuade them to let me get more than a distant blur!

  5. This is the first time I've seen this bird on your blog. Are they uncommon?

    1. I have not been lucky getting this species that often Steve. I do see them fairly regularly, but not in a good position to take photographs. They are a fairly common bird.

    2. I have the same problem with a few of my yard birds, too.

  6. Hey Roy... It seems a lot of the resident birds get overlooked when we a looking for the migrant and the ones we have never seen before !!

    1. Thanks GG. Yes we can be guilty of that sometimes.
It does tend to take over the better idea of enjoying all the nature around us regardless.

  9. Nice pictures Roy! I have never been able to get a decent photo of a Linnet, they fly too quickly normally! Having said that, you can say that about most of my efforts!

  10. Great pics Roy :-) Linnets are so hard to photograph and get close to, so these shots are very special indeed :-)
