I think it depends on how the light catches them Alison. The Redpolls have gone North now, but I can see what you mean about the similarities as both species look much more plain generally.
I have not been lucky getting this species that often Steve. I do see them fairly regularly, but not in a good position to take photographs. They are a fairly common bird.
Hey Roy... It seems a lot of the resident birds get overlooked when we a looking for the migrant and the ones we have never seen before !! Great shots of this nicely marked bird, nice of them to be obliging !!
Well done Roy! I haven' seen them in the last 2 years;.. :( Males are soooo pretty!! I hope you will have them breeding close by! Cheers and enjoy your WE!
Nice pictures Roy! I have never been able to get a decent photo of a Linnet, they fly too quickly normally! Having said that, you can say that about most of my efforts! J Follow me at HEDGELAND TALES
A true beauty this Linnet! I like the series very much Roy, especcialy the first photo. I think you did a great job, imho Linnets aren't easy to capture.
What lovely birds. I confuse these with redpolls, but the birds here don't look anywhere near as red!

DeleteGreat shots Roy. We have them round us too but I've yet to persuade them to let me get more than a distant blur!
ReplyDeleteThanks CT.
DeleteLovely shots Roy, especially the second one. Nice to see them close up, and it was good of them to pose for you!...[;o)

This is the first time I've seen this bird on your blog. Are they uncommon?

Thanks GG. Yes we can be guilty of that sometimes.

Thanks John, most of your efforts are pretty good from what I have seen.
DeleteGreat pics Roy :-) Linnets are so hard to photograph and get close to, so these shots are very special indeed :-)
