Four Fallow - An Encounter

Situation.
I was walking around a bend on a woodland track.
My thoughts.

"Whats that - Its Deer"?
"B...... wrong lens, drop down and change lens, also I don't have enough cover to move forward"

"Yes - Fallow Deer, I can see two, a hind and immature fawn"
"Problem is the wind is blowing from behind me, so they are downwind and will hear the slightest noise. "

"Wow! two hinds and two fawns"

"Beautiful"
"Ah! B...... they can hear my shutter clicking. I need to change to silent shutter, but don't have the time."

"They have turned, they are not happy, one of the hinds has already gone forward to check the escape route."

"Yes, they are definitely not happy"

"One last check"

"Gone."

  1. A great encounter Roy. It always seems to be sods law that when a special photo opportunity like this arises that we've always got the wrong lens attached to the camera. I guess it's natures way of making us work for our pleasures?
Despite the odds being against you you still managed to get some decent images to record these few special moments...[;o)

  2. Oh how wonderful to have come upon these beautiful animals and you did well to get so many shots before their escape.

  6. Reminds me of my only encounter with a deer. Only saw it for about five seconds. Amazing just how fast they can vanish.

We don't have those in the wild, only in parks!

  9. Nice moments did you capture, I think you can still be happy with the results unless lens- and shuttertrouble and wind from behind.

  10. Roy, very creative! I loved this post! Those deer are so dear! "hinds" is not a word I hear very often though I do know it from the Bible, and from a books called "Hinds Feet in High Places," as well as from Robert Burn's poetry! So...looks like you are in good company!

  11. Hey Roy... I love the third one with the heads all going in different direction, very cute!!
What a lovely area for them.. surprising you never have seen them there before!!
In spite of lens and clicking noises you got some good shot's !!

    You will have to be more on your guard when your walking these tall grass and tree covered places!! ; }

  13. Your photos show a very special encounter in a beautiful location. Deer are such nervous creatures and it is wonderful to catch a glimpse of them, if only for a moment.
