Female Clouded Yellow Butterfly

With regard to my recent find of the Clouded Yellow Butterfly
See

Yesterday I had a further look at the area where I found the male featured in the link above.
To my surprise I found another and it turned out to be a female.
She has similar, but paler markings and the upper wings are somewhat different than the male.

In this last and vary blurred shot it shows sufficient difference in the upper wing markings of the female.

    1. Maybe Helena. She was flying around feeding and also probably laying eggs.

  10. Some lovely photos of the Clouded Yellow, I've never seen one of those. It's been a good year for butterflies, my garden has been full of peacocks and in Suffolk I was seeing literally clouds of gatekeepers, meadow browns and ringlets - not something I ever expected to see in this country these days.

    1. Wow! Thanks Will, I am very pleased that you keep me on the straight and narrow.
I must admit I did consult my (J.A.Thomas) Guide to Butterflies of Britain and Ireland Page 32. and noted something about a blacker border on the upper wings, but I was unsure if this meant both the females or how much the difference was.
So I played safe. Thanks once again for your advice.
