Corn Bunting

The Corn Bunting is a bird of open farmland.
I know of one location where they can be seen, but the approach is difficult and these shots were taken from a car window.
The population is in serious decline and is 'Red Listed'.

Not the prettiest bird in the World, but I am always glad to find one and get close enough to it for a photograph.
Males are polygynous with up to three females in a breeding season. (What can I say?)

  1. Great shots, Roy. There used to be a lot of them around here, but it's getting more difficult to find them lately, which rather reflects the national situation.

By car is the best approach for a bunting. Great opportunities and beautiful photos! Thanks fot sharing.

  4. We have loads of them around here but before our move I never saw one! They come and perch on our front hedge and sing. They also like perching on telegraph wires as well. P.S. The hill fort on a previous post is very interesting and amazing the sheer size of it!
