Linnet Flock

The Linnet (Carduelis cannabina)

This species like many others looses its primary colourings in Winter, but when at its best has a lovely subtle colouring. They are very sociable birds and will flock in Winter.

A large flock has been sighted by several local Birding colleagues in an open arable field adjacent to the edge of the Parkland. So I went and found the flock, which you will observe in the last image of this Post.

Luckily I did find some of them in a tree along side the local side road.

As you can see below the flock have found something to eat.
This was on a track well out into the middle of the large field and the image is heavily cropped.
This wasn't all of them.

  3. That is quite a flock indeed!
I never saw that many Linnets together!
But as fringillidae's, I guess it must not be that unusual.
    Very interesting post, Roy!

  6. Warmer months at work, as I cycle in to work, I will often see lone males perched on the chain link fence at 6am, in full red breeding regalia!

  7. Hi, Roy!
Some problems, with my computer, took some of my time, in the last weeks, so I could not manage to visit all the blogs, as I would like to.
Not all the problems are solved yet, but I will try to come here more often.
Neverthelesss, when I have no time to leave a comment... I always share your photos on my perfil on G+, because I really appreciate your remarkable images... and today was no exception... an amazing sequence here as usual.
    Have a great weekend, Roy!

  9. Très jolie série !
Mais son taxon aujourd'hui est Linaria cannabina, et non Carduelis cannabina.
La liste des Oiseaux du Monde a changé ;-)
Bravo, je ne les vois pas souvent.
