Observing Greylag Geese in the Parkland on a regular basis I notice that they return to the water from local fields frequently to drink and to preen.
Walking about muddy fields and grassland they can get rather dirty web feet at this time of year.
So consequently when they return to the water it cleans their feet, just by landing on the water.
Note the muddy water around the feet.
See below, the feet are clean again.{:))
Only to start all over again of course.
Well I did say it was nonsense.{:))
LOL - nice one Roy.. and I don't like having dirty feet either... not that I'm given to walking barefoot in muddy fields that is....
ReplyDeleteThanks Tricia.
DeleteWell not in recent times anyway.{:))
Lovely images, can't possibly agree it's nonsense though
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer.{:))
DeleteFantastic flight shots. I see these geese each time I walk through our park near me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret.
DeleteWhat a great observation Roy, stunning photos to match.

Thanks Amanda.
DeleteWhenever I go anywhere near geese it's my feet that usually need cleaning!
ReplyDeleteYes, I know what you mean John.
DeleteI'm the same way when it comes to getting chicken fat on my fingers.
ReplyDeleteKnife and fork Steve.{:))
DeleteSeriously, Roy, that's what I do! But sometimes when you are boning a carcass for the soup pot, there's nothing like using the tools that God gave us. :-)
DeleteYes you are right Steve.
DeleteIt's hardly revelatory, but it is a charming little series of pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks Simon.
DeleteExcellent, better than scraping the mud off walking boots. Maybe I'll keep this in mind next time, though I doubt my landings are a elegant!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alison.{:)) Possibly not.
DeleteI adore Greylags, even with dirty feet :) Great shots, Roy!
ReplyDeleteWater birds are lucky that way.
ReplyDeleteYes they keep pretty clean John.{:))
