Jersey Tiger

The Jersey Tiger.

A species of Moth found mostly on the South coast of England especially in Devon and Dorset where it is well established. Although Nationally scarce, it is on the increase, which is good news as it makes for a nice photograph. One of its favourite flowers that it visits is the Buddleia on which I was able to take these images. It does however feed on a wide variety of herbaceous plants.

Three miles from home, a good place to take lunch.

This old tank was likely used many years ago for storing diesel for tractors working in the field all day. 

Nowadays of course tractors have large fuel tanks and run so much more efficiently. Also leaving fuel in remote locations it would most likely be stoolen.

Grey Heron Portraits

With the absence of anything else of interest at Lodmoor Reserve during my last visit, I thought a few of the resident Grey Heron would be appropriate. We do tend to ignore them most of the time.

Common Carder Bees

The Common Carder Bee (Bombus pascuorum) is a species of Bumblebee. 

It could be easily described as a mini bumblebee due to its size. An average length of the body is 14mm. You can assess how small it is as the Field Scabious flower that it is feeding from in these images below is only 3cm (1.23 inches) across. The Carder can be seen from March to November and is very common throughout the UK. The females have a more creamy colour on the thorax than the darker more yellow males.
