A Nice Change to Observations

It is really nice to see the various fruits and berries starting to form at this time of year.

The Rosehip berry from the Dog Rose bush now adorns many hedgerows.

A wading bird I have not seen for quite a while. This Common Sandpiper appeared in front of my long lens this week while I was walking around Lodmoor Reserve. I say long lens which was 600mm with a 1.4 converter, but the bird was still a long way from my position. It had just landed in a small stream of which there are a few around the Reserve. About five camera shots later it took off again.

So many Holly Blue butterflies this year. I have not seen so many for years.

This was another brief encounter on another day at Lodmoor. I observed movement in an overarching hedgerow, pointed my camera and took three shots.  On examination it was a Willow Warbler moving swiftly about catching flies. In a few weeks time it will, when there is a clear night sky, get airborne and migrate South for its winter holiday.

This immature House Sparrow along with another, was feeding on various insects amongst a bramble bush.

The Black-taled Godwits have returned again to Lodmoor. There was a group of 15 feeding near the Western edge of the water.

Small White

A very distant pair of Redshanks was observed, but never came close enough for a good image.

This Woodpigeon (One of Two) were already sleeping and settled in for the night.  During the extreme hot weather recently many birds appear to hide away and make little effort to fly anywhere.

Oystercatcher. This is one of a pair and there have been two pairs at Lodmoor most of this year.

Earlier in the day this Woodie was sitting in a Hawthorn bush and seemed rather puzzled about me photographing it.

Common Darter.

Haw berries the fruit of the Hawthorn tree are quite red now.

Wild apples and pears of an indeterminate species growing at Radipole Reserve.
