Adonis Blue Butterfly

The Adonis Blue butterfly prefers chalky South facing slopes.
When flying the male is easy to spot when compared to a male Common Blue.
The bright almost unreal colour shines brightly in the sun.

I photographed these images on a visit to the surrounding land of the Cerne Abbas Giant.

As you can see, he is quite a 'Pronounced' fellow.

  1. How fabulous! I have them flitting about in the uncultivated field across the road from my house - we are on chalky ground now. I saw them once before up in the Pyrenees where they were puddling and it was relatively easy to creep up on them to take photos. Here they are being annoyingly flitty! I did get some pics of a couple settled with wings closed, but it is the bright blue which is the most spectacular. Well done capturing such wonderful images.
