Marbled L'amour

A mating pair of Marbled White Butterfly

The brown markings of the female are quite obvious in this image below.
In fact the species is more closely related to the various 'Brown' species rather than its name suggests.

As is often the case there is always another male trying to get in on the act.

The flight time of this species is between mid June and the end of July.
I have found it just about everywhere I go in my area at the moment.

  3. Hi Roy, wonderful to see these mating Marbled whites. The first photo is absolutely beautiful with the soft backgroud. This species is scarce in The Netherlands so it is good to see you met a lot of them. Hopefully there will be a lot of eggs and next year again these beauties around you.
    A lovely series!

    Kind regards,
    Marianne

  4. How fabulous! Great photos, Roy. Always interesting to catch them in the act ;-) and of course you can usually get better photos as they don't fly off straight away! Like your most recent post with the photos of birds and butterflies - nice one of the Reed Warbler!
