  2. There's a very autumnal feel to these photos. The Holly Blue is a very attractive butterfly - round here butterflies of any description have been quite thin on the ground. The most I've seen this summer was in my son's garden in Suffolk which was full of them. He lives in the country surrounded by farmland and hedgerows which could be something to do with it .

    1. Thanks D. Yes a lot of brown and dried grass probably contributes to that.
      I think you will get more around the countryside, more relevant food plants available.

  3. No argus (arguses? argoi?) for me this year yet, but the blues are doing very well, especially the holly variety. Not got shots as good as that though.

  4. Lovely pictures, Roy. How do you tell the difference between male and female Brown Argus? They look identical to me! :-)

    1. Thanks Mandy, I go by the shape of the body at the head end, the male always looks larger to me in any ID images in books.
