White Admiral Emerges

The White Admiral Butterfly (Limenitis camilla) is usually quite elusive.
I only found a couple of rather old and worn specimens last year on my Woodland walk.
So it was quite encouraging this week on my walk, to find two in good condition so early in the season. I have been looking for them amongst others for the last few days, hopefully there may be more to come yet. These were returning every few minutes to a batch of 'In Flower' Bramble bushes, situated in a sunny position along side a woodland ride. I would have liked a few more shots of the underside as its a colourful pattern, but when feeding they tend to mostly open flat their wings.

  5. A beauty of a butterfly Roy, and great shots of it too.
    I've only ever seen one, a couple of years ago, and that was a very worn looking individual; nothing like these.

  7. Lucky You! We went to Martin Down nature reserve last week, the White Admiral were everywhere and I did not get one shot, they were all too flighty. One did land on a bramble flower but it was tatty and torn. So congratulations for getting nice pictures of White Admirals that are not tatty and torn :-)

  10. Hi, Roy!
    Your blog is stunning!
    It's always a pleasant surprise to get here!
    I apologize for another long absence, around here.
    Lack of time to visit all the blogs as I would wish, associated with a problem on my computer, which kept me away from net for a few weeks.
    But now that I'm here again... I will take a look on everything that I've been missing here...
    A huge hug
    Ana

  13. Hey Roy..Thought I commented on this one but who knows sometimes I forget my own name. ;}
    It is a great time of year for you seeing butterflies about to focus on. This is another nice one. My favorites are # 5 and 6. I love those bramble flowers, just don't think I want to get caught up in those thorns though :}
