A Prickly Pitch

My first sighting of a Large Skipper Butterfly (Ochlodes venata) this year.
A bonus with this sighting was the pleasing background (Musk Thistle) on which the subject was positioned.
This one is a male, the black stripes (scent glands) across the dihedral outer wings are the identifiable marks. 

Sony A6000.  FE.24-240 lens.  1/400 at f8.  240mm.  ISO100

  2. I have a likening for thistles and would love to see Musk Thistle, like you said it had a bonus, first Skipper. Lovely photos.

  6. Hey Roy... Love these shot's . The Skipper is fantastic, and the thistle flower's are stunning with the skipper on them.
    I like the 3rd from the bottom. So much nice details in these!!
