Early Purple

The Early Purple Orchid (Orchis mascula)

One of our wild orchids.
 A perennial herbaceous plant that flowers from April to June growing to a height 50 to 60 cm.

      Thanks Margaret, yes, but they soon die off so you have to catch them at the right time.

    Hoping to spot bee orchids in my local reserve again this year! Not as tall as those beauties though.

      They are about the tallest I think out of the species I see Simon.

    Hey Roy... Love your new header,just gorgeous!!!!
    This Orchid is just gorgeous too. What a sight that must be when they show up in a field of green, even the plants leaves are pretty !

    Beautiful wild orchid flower, beautifully photographed.
    Here they do not bloom.
