Early Warblers Arriving

Here are some of the first images I have been able to get of the early arriving Warblers on migration.
All of these will be here throughout the Summer and into Autumn before leaving again.
I find each year that initially they are all a bit wary and not so easy to get good images.

Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla)

This one was the most cooperative of the species in this post. They tend to move around amongst the lower branches and come into view, but not for very long.

Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus)

Arriving after the Blackcap and the Chiffchaff below this species (from my experience) tend to remain high in the taller trees for a while and not so easy to get any clear images.

Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita)

The Chiffchaff having been around for a few days now is starting to come down from the taller trees.

As the months go on all of these Warblers will hopefully become more tolerant of their surroundings and I can get some better images.

  1. Cracking images, it seems like all the warblers arrived at once this year didn't it and Blackcaps seem to be absolutely everywhere at the moment. Hopefully the Whitethroats will join them in the next few days :-)

    Kindest regards.

  2. I've never seen a chiff chaff. Hear them so much, never seen one. Blackcaps I see in my sycamore from time to time, wondering if the winter birds head North in summer, and our summer visitors are from further south.

    1. At this time they are usually way up in the top of trees and you have to really study the high branches to find them Simon.

  3. These are still brilliant images! I used to get visiting Blackcaps in my old garden, but not sure what will visit me here, so it's been lovely to see them again in your images.

  5. Hey Roy... It is nice to returning birds, and the Warbler are arriving here to. Nice shot's of yours, and it makes it easier to before the leaves start to block seeing them . I have seen 3 so far, and it sure is nice to see our Spring finally get started.

    1. Thanks GG, yes you need to be quick now at this time of year. The leaves come out and birds start to nest and when they do emerge again they are quite scruffy from all their hard work of rearing.
