Sedge Warbler

I have not seen many Sedge Warblers (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus) this year, but certainly heard a few of them.
So fortunately while I was standing on a bridge this week I noticed one moving amongst reeds feeding on insects. It looks like it could be a first year 'Sedge' and although must have seen me, didn't take a lot of notice and carried on frantically searching for food. No doubt trying to fatten up sufficiently for its long flight South later on in the year. (I frantically carried on taking shots of it).

It then flew across the river and whilst I was still taking shots of it, a Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) came into the shot.
So it was double fortune as I had not seen many 'Reeds' this year either.

  4. Well spotted and photographed. Even better to get two form the price of one. I do like the wing spread shot.

  5. Fantastic photos and lucky you! I had the pleasure of hearing many of them on a recent trip to a wetland area, and saw them up above the reeds, but never did they stop long enough to even get a proper view through binocs, let alone a photo! I'd never even seen Sedge Warblers before.

  7. Really very nice photo's Roy. You were lucky he was more interested in the food than in you and your camera ;-). Nice you got a reed warbler bonus. The photo with the spread wings is great, no matter that it was a lucky shot.

    Enjoy your weekend,
    Marianne
