Spring - Almost (2)

The second of a two part post of scenes from my recent walk.

Marsh Marigold (Kingcups)

More Primrose

I visited this area in the hope of finding Comma Butterflies. It was more enclosed than this, but parkland staff have cleared away bushes. It is still quite a sun trap and in previous years I have seen my first Comma of the Spring. No such luck unfortunately.

More Wild Violets and in a much lighter shade.

A lot of Bullfinch activity was observed, but as usual not very photographer friendly.

A Woodpigeon taking in the sun.

A Robin in the "Peak" of condition.{:))

Another shot of the Dunnock as in the previous part 1.

  1. What a beautiful pair of posts Roy, it is wonderful to see all the spring flowers now starting to really emerge properly isn't it (especially the Violets). It's amazing what a bit of warmish sunshine can do :-)

PS. Well done getting a shot of the day flying Bat :-)

  2. Nice to see things are looking up at last. Plenty of heat from the Sun when the cold winds drop.

  3. Spring is starting to 'spring', but, like you I am yet to observe a butterfly! Things are looking pretty bleak on the flutter front! Love the captures of the Violets, a lovely flower!

  4. No Comma Butterflies but many other nice sightings, Roy, I can see the spring in your photos. I love the primroses. I'm still waiting when it comes here as it was snowing in the morning and temperatures are just a few degrees above zero but this can't last for ever...

  5. I love Marsh Marigolds. They're just about to flower over here so I'm sure they'll feature in a post of mine soon too! (-: Nice shots of the Wood Pigeon. They're strangely shy for me. For some reason I think they should be tamer than they are. Slowly but surely Spring is on its way isn't it! (-:

  6. It looks like your spring is much further along than ours. We've been fairly cold and windy.

It is still a cold wind although that isn't as strong as it was.

  7. Hi Roy

Your photos reminded me of the trip to England my wife and I took many years ago. We were amazed at the size of the Wood Pigeons and also how much noise they seemed to make crashing into the trees.

    Regards
    Guy

  8. Two great posts to encourage us out of our winter doldrums Roy! I think spring, at long last, is slowly but surely starting to wake itself up. I've not seen any Violets yet but, a couple of days ago, I did see a small and lonely Cowslip just starting to flower. Like you though, I just need to see a butterfly, or even a singing Chiffchaff, to convince me that spring has really arrived!...[;o)

  9. What a lovely couple of posts Roy, so colourful! Lovely to see my favourite wildflower the Primrose. I found my first locally on Saturday but yesterday I went no more than two miles further up the road only to find steep snow drifts still lining the road and the wood where I was hoping to find Violets was around a foot deep in snow! Your photo of the Bullfinch is far less twiggy than the one I took the other day. Still groaning at the pun by the way :-)

  12. Your Spring looks delightful. We are still having some snow here in Northern Utah too. The grass is greening up, but not too many spring flowers yet. Love the Robin picture!
