Peacock Butterfly

I have seen a few Peacock Butterflies on the wing already this Spring, but this was the first one I was able to find pitched. This is another species that lives over winter and like the Small Tortoiseshell does not colonise and flies over the countryside. It does frequent woodland more so than the Tortoiseshell.

The Peacock (Inachis io)

  1. Seen quite a few here also over the past few days. A bit of warmth has made things more spring like.

  4. Nice to see some Butterflies at long last Roy! I'm worried for the Orange Tips though. We don't have any Ladies Smock flowering or even showing yet!
