A Point & Shoot Experiment

"The best camera there is, is the one you have with you"

I use to wonder what that saying meant, but realised that photography is more to do with the 'subject' and its 'composition', rather than anything else.

I took a little Casio EX-S10 Point and Shoot compact camera on my walk today. It was my wife's second string one that she hasn't used for some time. It is a tiny little thing and shoots 10 megapixels and has a very small sensor. It is at least four years old. That said, it performed well enough to provide these images below for posting about the flooded meadows and show how much rain we have had this last few days. I also realised afterwards that it was just set on the 'Normal' quality setting rather than  "Fine.'

It also shows that if you are not after perfection with a camera, you don't have to spend loads of money on one.

  1. Hi Roy, Like your new blog name, shame about your old name, but sometimes a little change can be a good thing. The pictures are very good. I have seen some very good pictures taken using the mobile phone, these days there are no limits to what you can do with photography. You are right what you say about the 'subject' and its 'composition' There have been moments where I have seen a fantastic picture I could have taken if only I had my bl...dy camera with me. One occasion there was a Green Woodpecker on a fence post on top of the cliffs overlooking Bournemouth beach, it would have been a brilliant picture, the Green woodpecker with Bournemouth beach, the sea, even in the distant - Ise of White in the background. One of my aim is to get a small compact camera for my handbag, for those moments.

  2. Hey Roy....The photos are very nice especially like the first!! The little cameras are nice to put in the pocket only if you remember to : )...the things I usually see when I don't have a camera are to far away..you can't always win, but fun trying!!

  3. Nice post Roy and I share your sentiments entirely. One of the best cameras I've ever used was a Nikon Coolpix 5200, which is just a tiny compact with 5 megapixels and 3x zoom, but it was excellent for close up shots and fine for landscapes (all the photos on my blog prior to September 2011 were taken with that camera).

  5. Great series Roy. I love my little point-and-shoot camera and wouldn't leave home without it.

  6. Excellent results Roy! It shows a lot depends on who is behind the camera. I particularly like the first one.
