  2. These images bring back some memories for me Roy...way back in the dark ages when I was just a wee lad, I used to go out to the fields with my mother and her fellow 'field gang' of women where they, early in the season when the onions were still very small, would crawl along the rows and 'thin out' the idividual onions to give them room to grow, (this was done several times during the growing season) When the onions were ready to harvest they would go back and 'pull' them, put them into bunches with elastic bands (we were never short of elastic bands in our house!)then take them to the wash tanks, old cattle watering tanks, and wash them in, as I remember, thick brown muddy water! the washed bunches were then packed into boxes ready for market. All this was done outside in all weathers, how times have changed, looking at those row spacings, I bet they don't do it like that anymore?...[;o)

    1. Great story Trevor. I'm certain they don't do it like that anymore. :)
I can remember Apple picking by hand using a ladder and those big round whicker baskets
They don't do that anymore either.:) Happy days.

  3. I like these images of the onion crop across the field. I smell wild onions growing around here sometimes. They can be quite powerful.
