Two species both completely different in colours are on the wing at the moment.
The Red Admiral is a migrant and the Gatekeeper is a resident species.

Lovely photos as always. I haven't seen too many Red Admirals in the garden, though that's possibly because my Buddleia is slow to come on flower this year
ReplyDeleteThanks John, yes its only recently come into flower for some reason even though other things seem to be advanced.
DeleteLovely flutter shots Roy, Lots of Gatekeepers around this area at the moment, more than I've ever seen before, I think they must be having a good year?...[;o)
ReplyDeleteThanks Trevor, yes I think this is a good year for the Gatekeeper.
DeleteLast year was a poor year for them.
They are all intent on feeding, aren't they? As Homer Simpson would say "Can't talk. Eating."
ReplyDeleteYes they have done what they emerged for Wilma, now all there is left to do is eat.:)
DeleteBeautiful images.. Cheers :-)))
ReplyDeleteThanks Ana.
DeleteHave seen some beautiful butterflies Roy including Red Admirals, but didn't get the chance to photograph them. Your images as always are wonderful and it's been great to see the Gatekeeper up close like this.
ReplyDeletesuperb Roy !
