Speckled Wood

The Speckled Wood butterfly is very active in the woodland areas that I walk.
A species that perhaps due to its common nature is taken for granted, but on close inspection has very colourful extensive markings albeit of a brown base.

  2. I've always been intrigued by these little beauties, especially the way they seem to just disappear when you're trying to follow their flight through dappled light.

  7. We get a lot of speckled woods in this area too though with all the rain we've had they've been more notable for their absence most of the time.
