Common Blue Butterfly

Last year I was of the opinion that the Common Blue was quite scarce, almost certainly in the areas that I visit. So its quite ironic that the first sighting I have this year of the species which was actually yesterday, was of a mating pair as shown below. I also observed three others over the course of an hour at different locations.

Also I found this female below hiding down in amongst grass at ground level, which was quite difficult to get a reasonable shot of.

  4. Lovely photos of the Common Blue. I do see it here and it visits my patch of birds-foot trefoil. It's the other blues I don't see (with the exception of the occasional holly blue)

    1. Thanks Wendy. The Chalkhill is the only one I get to see other than Holly or Common normally.

  6. I saw a Common Blue in Durlston this year, that seems to be one place you are garanteed to see one. Nice captures, good to find these not-so-common butterflies.
