Broad-bodied Chaser

Dragonflies are starting to emerge now which gives one the opportunity to photograph something different.
I found this male Broad-bodied Chaser alongside a pond in woodland.
A common and widespread species and one of the easier dragonflies to predict about flight patterns.
It will return to the same perch on numerous occasions during a short period of time.

  1. Fab photos-reminds me that I must get a small pond into the front garden somehow!

  2. The body colouring is caused by an effect called pruinism or something like that. Not prudism!

  3. One of my favourites. Used to have regular visitors to the garden but not for a few years now. I guess a local colony didn't survive.

  4. It is wonderful to see dragonflies again isn't it Roy, these pictures are superb :-) We had a Broad-bodied Chaser in our garden on Tuesday but that was a female.

Hope all is well with you and yours :-)

  9. Wow, you got some great photos of it! I saw one recently but haven't had any dragons visiting my pond at home yet.
