Goldfinch - Common Species Series

Calling a beautiful coloured bird like the Goldfinch common seems a bit of an anathema to me.
We are fortunate that they are indeed common though.
This I think below was a pair as it that time of year and they were checking out a long wide stretch of Bramble hedgerow.

  1. Kauniit kuvat tiklistä;-) Pidän paljon tästä linnusta. Tikli on värikäs poikkeus Suomen linnuista. Nämä kotoiset linnut, ovat yleensä niin värittömiä. Terveisiä.

    1. Thanks Amanda. I was fortunate enough on one occasion a few years ago to see a large flock of about 50 flying together which is quite a sight.

  4. They are common now, but as a child, I hardly saw any. They were persecuted as cage birds I believe.

  6. Lovely birds to see Roy and you've captured a great set of images. It's just a shame that they leave so much mess around my garden feeders! ...[;o)

  9. Simply beautiful, the humble Goldfinch has to be one of my favourite garden and farmland birds (along with Yellowhammers & Linnets!).

  10. It is nice that they are becoming more common now, I see them and hear them now in most places I visit out in the countryside. They are quite angry birds though, they do squabble alot at the feeders with each other.
