Dining Goldfinch

Getting close to Goldfinch is never that easy when they are in the open.

I was able to sneak up on a flock of about twenty through tall bunches of dried Teasel, but they will only let you get so close before they fly off and move to a plant further away.

This is one of the Goldfinches favourite places to find food at this time of year.

Note below the seed that got away.

  1. A brilliant set of photos Roy. All my Goldfinch visitors seem to have disappeared. I hope they haven't succumbed to the dreaded finch disease.

  3. Hey Roy.. Wow, what a sight that must have been, and you got some nice shot's to share too. The seed that got away shot is great. I love teasel, have some growing around my property. It don't grow wild here in Maine,so I sowed some seed around years ago. I am sure there are people not happy when it comes up in there gardens;), but our Goldfinches love them.

  9. Great shots....I'm glad you got that close to them. Goldfinches are fun to watch. I'm always amazed to hear the name applied to these birds....you have to admit that our Goldfinch is a lot more fittingly named :-)
