Swans on the Water

I wasn't going to use the obvious title "Swan Lake"  as I think thats been used before somewhere.
I shot these images of Mute Swans on one of the Parkland lakes. There is a lot of swan activity at the moment with pairs trying to mark out their piece of territorial water and immature or unattached singles crowding out the lakes. Odd really as the breeding season is over and its not just parents driving off their young which is normal behaviour. Pairs appear to want to hang on to their bit of water even at this time of year.

  3. Swans are such lovely elegant birds, you've taken some great photos of them. Odd that they are trying to hold on to their territory, I wonder why that is.

    1. Thanks D.
I don't understand it either and I don't think all pairs are like that.

  4. Great cloud formations and beautiful skies. I do love looking at swans, we have some near by with three cygnets which I must go and photograph now that the holiday makers with their noisy kids and unruly dogs have left the swans and ducks in peace over at Goodrington.

  5. Hey Roy... Whatever the reason for there behavior, these are some stunning shots. The fluffy white clouds and blue sky, mirror the fluffy white feathers, and the water!
Such elegant looking birds, but aggressive!!! There wing tips look like flower petals.
Love the third from the bottom.

    1. Thanks Ana, not always calm unfortunately especially when these Swans try and drive off the others.

  7. Beautiful birds! I saw at least one seriously injured bird last autumn after one territorial fight.

    1. Thanks Gunilla. I'm not surprised as they are vicious types.
