Recent Agricultural

Some recent images of various activities on the land.

Spraying herbicide on Oilseed Rape which was subsequently harvested.

Harvesting Barley. (Dusty job)

As with all the land that was used to grow crops, very soon after it gets ploughed up ready for another sowing. Check out the Black Labrador thats keeping an eye on progress.

  1. Not quite as romantic looking as when they used horses is it:) They were combining the rape in the field across the lane from my son's house when I was in Suffolk a couple of weeks ago, The dust it raises is incredible - as we were in the garden for my grandson's birthday party we were very aware of it! The farmer's have to make the most of good weather at harvest time though.

    1. Yes, with all that dust you have to position yourself in the right place to take photos D.
Those lovely horses. They hold the National Shire Horse show at the East of England Show ground each year.
Its certainly worth one visit to see those magnificent animals which I did a few years ago.

  3. I find it interesting how the oilseed rape changes from this vibrant yellow flower into this creaky, oily dull green thing creeping across the grass.

  4. I have noticed in one of your images, the farmer has left margins at the edge of his field, here, just up the road from where I live, the greedy landowner (Richard Drax, a conservative MP, I was told who owns the fields) has ploughed and planted corn right to the edge of his fields. Not only that, one field is now a Solar farm and in another, a big slurry pit. I will say no more what I think of this P---. It seems too that this government has lifted a ban on the pesticides that are responsible for killing bees to be used on oil seed rape crop, I will say no more what I think this government :-\ It is all about making profit.

  5. Lovely agricultural scenes Roy, this has to be one of my favourite times of year. They are certainly getting on with the ploughing in your neck of the woods but I suppose it is a necessity since crops such as Oilseed Rape have to be sown and be relatively well advanced before the colder weather arrives. Interesting to see a Deutz-Fahr combine as well, certainly makes a welcome change from the more typical Deeres, Masseys, Claas' & New Hollands :-)

Hope you are well and kindest regards :-)
