Small Tortoiseshell

I observed this extremely fresh and intact male below, which is one of the Summer brood of Small Tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae).
I never miss a chance to photograph these beauties, one of our most colourful species.
The next brood will be in August which will then hibernate and emerge next Spring.

Sony A6000.  EF 70-200mm lens.  200mm. 1/320 at f8.  ISO250

  5. They are a wonderful butterfly, and your photos show them of well, did see quite a few warming up on the walls yesterday, had a chat and wondered if one could have been mine that I raised....
