Parkland Walk

Scenes from my latest parkland walk.
The weather was less than cooperative as every 10 minutes or so it would change from very dull cloudy  overcast to some sun with white clouds and limited blue sky. All the time it was blowing a strong North Westerly wind and eventually the grey clouds would prevail.

Field Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis)

More Swallows were found clinging on to a barbed wire fence in the high winds.

No picnicking today.

Mushrooms. Left unpicked by me, too many dogs around.{:))

A few Green-veined White butterflies were observed in more sheltered spots.

No its not dust on the camera sensor below. Its a flock of Sand Martins that had been flying low over one of the lakes for a spot of inflight refuelling and suddenly they decided to flock together and fly upwards high above the lake and disappear altogether.

Poor lighting didn't help getting these shots of the Sand Martin before they vanished.

Marsh Woundwort (Stachys palustris)

These next two images of a Great-crested Grebe were posted purely for artistic purposes rather than about the bird itself. I liked the pattern of the water.

Hips are now in abundance.

A diving Cormorant.

Chicory (Cichorium intybus)

I am not going to get into the nonsense about Cows 'lying down' or 'standing up'.
They are simply lying down to rest and chew the cud, nothing more and nothing less.

A Grey Heron looking for lunch.

A Grey Heron lurking in the long grass.

Lots of Hawthorn berries with a migrating Willow Warbler stopping off for a rest and refuel.

One of the second brood of Speckled Wood Butterflies. This species will fly into mid September.

A couple of monochrome images to show the mostly overcast mood of the weather.

Things are not so good now at this time of year. Bird migration etc and not so many butterflies now.
